About HOD:
How many times can we say it: Shuguang road is the place to drink! Over the past year or so, the oldies (Maya, You To, Reggae, Traveller, and the not quite as old 7 Club) have been joined by some newbies (Black & White, 1944, and Old Shanghai). It’s the perfect place for a pub crawl (as everyone discovered with last year’s Pub Golf). In the past, the crawl would usually end up at Traveller since it’s the furthest south, but times have changed my friends.
HOD is just off the Lingyin road and Shuguang road intersection and is easy to find cuz there’s a mad long line of cars outside. It’s a Hummer, next to a Porshe, next to our company Ferrari. Right, we mean next to our Flying Pigeon bicycle. But that’s one of the great things about this place. There are all types of people having a good time inside. We went on a Thursday night and got there around midnight – still hard to find a seat. Let’s give you a little perspective. We walked all the way from Maya, which was pretty dead for Maya, checked out You To and Reggae, both doing alright for a Thursday, and finally arrived at HOD, which was going strong.
Why is this place the new place to be? Aesthetically speaking it will rock your face off. It’s obvious that the designers of HOD knew what they were doing. After all, who wouldn’t want a sculpture of a luscious badonkadonk sticking in their face when they’re drunk? The giant spiders in their metallic webs hanging from the ceiling are a bit freaky though. This place could do if you’re by yourself, with a bunch of friends, or on a steamin’ hot date (go you!!!).
The drinks are the same as most every place around the lake. A barrel of beer (150RMB) is always good for bringing friends together or keeping it classy with the aforementioned dreamy date. If that isn’t to your liking, they also have a full liquor bar with the reg prices. The food menu is more than the standard bar food, and they’ve got a grill cooking things up outside. Another plus here is the live music. The acoustics at this place are extremely good, but at times it can be too loud when the band is playing. So keep your pimp hand strong playa and bust a move to HOD.
