In order to demonstrate how choosing walking over driving actually helps the environment, Jody Xiong from DDB China, in cooperation with the China Environmental Protection Foundation, put together a very impressive outside installation on the the pedestrian crossings in China.
Massive 12.6-metre-long and 7-metre-wide white canvases with drawings of bare trees were unfolded on the pedestrian crossings in 15 different cities of China. On both sides of the sidewalk they put huge sponge cushions soaked in green environmentally-friendly paint. Every time a person crossed the street, the paint got on his/her shoes turning their footsteps into leaves. That way the creators were sending a message, that the more you walk, the greener the trees will be. Literally!
Almost 4 million people were involved in creating 132 trees. Now that’s efficient environmental education!
